Adults Only! The Perks of a Kid-Free Trip to Walt Disney World

Who says Walt Disney World is only for kids? As it turns out, plenty of adults feel this way and miss out on what could truly be the vacation of a lifetime. If you’ve been to Walt Disney World recently though, you know this simply isn’t the case. Adults without children are realizing that the “Most Magical Place on Earth” isn’t just for little ones. There are countless opportunities for adults without children (as well as parents in need of a kid-free vacation) to enjoy while visiting.

First of all, the food! There are so many diverse food experiences available at the Walt Disney World Resort and the number of restaurants with unique offerings continues to grow year after year. There are over 90 table service dining experiences at this point and even more quick-service options. Walt Disney World has become a foodie destination and theme park food has expanded leaps beyond hamburgers and hot dogs. From world class restaurants to twists on simple classics, there are entrees to suit any taste and budget. The worst thing about the food at Walt Disney World is narrowing it down to which ones you have time to taste during each trip. For my first kid-free trip later this year, we chose restaurants that we wouldn’t necessarily select when planning a family vacation, such as an arrival day brunch at Grand Floridian Café and a 40th birthday dinner at Sanaa.

Second, the drinks! As Walt Disney World has expanded their food choices, they’ve also broadened the horizons in terms of the alcoholic beverages that are served. From specialty drinks served around the World Showcase at EPCOT during all the fun seasonal festivals to the one-of-a-kind choices available at the newly opened Oga’s Cantina in Hollywood Studios, there’s something for everyone to try and enjoy. This year on our kid-free trip, I am making a special point to spend time at The Enchanted Rose Lounge, a Beauty and the Beast themed bar located inside the Grand Floridian Resort.

Finally, the experiences! Did you know that Walt Disney World offers over 30 different behind-the-scenes tours? For our family, it might be cost prohibitive for all four of us to go on some of these tours as they vary in price range from around $20 all the way up to $300 per person. Many of the tours have an age or height restriction as well for safety purposes. For example, we will be experiencing Keys to the Kingdom ($99/pp and ages 16+) at Magic Kingdom as well as Wild Africa Trek ($189-$249/pp and ages 8+) at Animal Kingdom on our adults-only getaway this year.

Candice was raised in east Tennessee. While in college, her best friend dragged her to a Walt Disney World College Program recruiting session at the University of Tennessee and the rest is Disney history.  In the Fall of 1999, Candice became a quick service food hostess for Sunset Ranch Market and Fantasmic at Disney-MGM Studios – or what is now known as Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  While soaking up her time as a cast member, she met Ryan, a neighbor and a fellow college programmer who worked as a custodial host at Epcot.  Four years later, Candice moved to the Midwest and married that boy from across the hall.  They now live in Greenwood, Indiana with their two little boys.  The Disney-loving foursome took their first family trip to The Happiest Place on Earth in 2013 and Candice is eagerly planning their return.  Candice also works full-time at a community mental health center and enjoys taking photographs and blogging at Mommy in the Midwest.
