Disney’s Hollywood Studios takes visitors behind the scenes of attractions in many different ways. One of the most popular is the American Idol Experience. Aspiring stars can audition and get the rush of a lifetime performing on stage in front of thousands of fans.
On the real television show, certain age and residency requirements must be met, but at Hollywood Studios, any visitor age 14 and over, that is not an employee or family member of Disney or Fox, can sign up to audition! Entrants ages 14-17 must have a legal guardian present during all auditions. Audition slots are limited and fill up early, so it is suggested to head straight to the American Idol Experience area as soon as you enter the park. These slots are also time specific that could possibly interfere with dining reservations, Fantasmic! shows, Fast Pass times, etc. so be sure to work that into your schedule.
If you’re anything like me, on stage is not the thing for you. You can still be a part of the American Idol Experience by sitting in the audience. Audience members watch the performances and vote on their favorite by using an interactive keypad at your seat. So will you hang out and watch the show or will you be, “‘The Next American Idol'”?

Shannan is a mom that was born and raised in rural Tennessee. She tells us: “I live with my husband and 3 of our 5 children. Travis is 24 and is father to my grandbabies, Emma and baby Judson. I can’t wait to start sharing Disney with them. Dusty is 22, Clay 12, Zachary 10 and Erin is 8. I clean houses to make money to fund my magical trips. I went to Disney the first time as a teen and couldn’t wait to start introducing my own children to the magic. We took our 3 youngest in 2004 and that started it all. We have been 3 times since then and have our first Christmas trip planned for this December. Usually my parents accompany us on the trip and I have to research and plan for things that will suit various ages in our party of 7. Each time I go, I try new experiences in lodging and dining so I can share it with friends and family that seek my advice on trip planning! Disney is definitely my first choice in vacation destinations. Hopefully there is a Disney surf and turf vacation in our future!“
