‘Tis the season. As we head towards May, and folks start looking ahead to booking their fall vacations to Walt Disney World, the online Disney rumor mill has started to churn and people have lots of questions:
When will we know about fall discounts? What will the dates be? What hotels will be included/excluded?
And of course, the granddaddy of all Disney discount questions:
Will there be Free Dining this year?
I’m here to tell you today…..I don’t know. And neither does anyone else, despite what you have read/heard online. Yes folks are making some educated guesses, but the fact remains that until we hear it from Disney, NOTHING is definite. Disney has been known to change discount details literally at the last minute, so until it is announced by them, take any details you read with a grain of salt.
Because of this, I always advise my clients to never, ever, ever count on a discount when booking: just because Disney did something for certain dates, last year, and the year before that and the year before that means nothing. They can (and DO!) make changes to their discounts every year, and there are simply no guarantees of anything when it comes to promotions.
Is there anything about fall discounts that we DO know? Well, based on recent history, it is not unreasonable to expect that with any Disney promotions for this fall, there are likely to be a lot of exclusions and extremely limited availability. This has definitely been the trend over the past year, so it’s important to realize that just because there is a discount out for your dates and hotel choice, doesn’t mean that there will actually be availability with that discount for you.
The other thing to consider is that multiple discount offers could come out at the same time….and the best option isn’t always the one that has “free” in the name. So generally, you have to do some math and comparisons to see which promotion will save you the most money.
What then does all this mean to you? First, if/when something comes out for the fall, do not delay in booking, as the longer you wait, the fewer options you will have. Second, be prepared to check all the options to see what will work best for you.
