Thrifty Thursday: More Money to Spend With Disney Gift Cards!

We discovered Disney Gift cards  just before our last visit to Disney World.  Disney gift cards can be used for almost anything at Disney from Disney park tickets to Mickey Mouse merchandise, and can be used just like cash at Disney theme parks, resort hotels, Disney retail stores, DisneyStore.com, Disney MusicStore.com, and Disney cruises. Disney gift cards make great gifts for that special kid or adult who is heading for a Disney vacation because there are a number of designs to fit each person’s personality or character choice (there is even one with Olaf!)  and each card ordered from Disney directly arrives with a personalized message for the recipient!  Pretty cool, huh?

Now here’s the thrifty side of the Disney gift card.  Well, since this is Thrifty Thursday, you knew there would be a thrifty side, right?  Yep even with gift cards there are discounts and bargains to be found! While there are benefits to buying directly from Disney, shopping around will give you a bigger bang for your buck.  I found a nifty little website that offers resale on Disney Store Gift Cards, Gift Card Granny.  Note here that this is for the Disney Store Gift Cards, not the Disney Gift Card.  Disney Store Gift cards can only be used at a Disney Store location or DisneyStore.com.  These particular cards can NOT be used for admission to parks or products within the park.  However, this site sells cards not used by original owners at a discount.  The more value on the card the more savings you get.    For a $50 card, the prices were $47.50 and a $272 card was priced as $245. I noted savings from 5% up to 21 % on the cards for sale at the time of this writing.  Shipping on most of these cards is free but some sellers were charging a small mailing fee.   Each seller on this site is required to offer Gift Card Buyer Protection so there is assurance you will you receive the correct gift card with the promised balance.

For fairness and convenience sake, several of the big box stores sell Disney Gift Cards as well, and depending on the store’s requirements, you can save some money here. For example, Target offers a 5% discount when you purchase Disney gift cards using their REDCard. Sam’s Club has the single $50 Disney Gift Card online and in stores (Sam’s membership is required) for $48.88 with free shipping.  Sam’s Club also has a multi-pack of 3 $50 Disney gift cards (total $150 value) for $142.98 with free shipping!  That’s right, you are buying $150 worth of Disney gift cards for $142.98!  That’s free dollars in my book! Costco often runs similar promotions, and I have even heard of some gas rewards that can be applied to Disney gift cards as well!
