Thrifty Thursday: Monorail Magic

The Monorail is such a fun way to explore parts of the Walt Disney World Resort.  This is something that we do on the first day we get to the World.  We usually do not buy a park ticket for this day, because we are usually tired and hungry from traveling, so we save money and make it an easy night to rest up, fill our bellies and get ready for an amazing visit!  I love the Monorail because…yep, you guessed it…it is FREE!!  Free stuff always gets me giddy!

You can take the bus from your resort to Magic Kingdom and from there walk over to the Monorail station.  We usually hop on and go over to the Contemporary first, enjoying the views of MK, the castle, and all the people.  So many great things about the Monorail, it’s restful, the views are usually great, and you can use it to explore the resorts!  Even though we’ve been in them before, it’s always fun to look around!  Chef Mickey’s is our favorite restaurant so sometimes this is our first dining stop for our Disney trip.  Whether we eat or not, we usually look around in the gift shop or tour the grounds, they have a great “beach” here and it’s always fun to see other hotels pools and entertainment.  Sometimes this helps us plan our next trip!

Then we hop on again to go visit the Polynesian (cruising on through the Transportation and Ticket Center.)  We explore this resort for a while, stop in a shop, and if we are lucky with our timing, we may catch a really great view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks lighting up the sky from the Polynesian beach!  Free!  Yipee!

Our last stop is the Grand Floridian.  We love going here and looking around, walking up and down grand staircases and riding in old fashioned looking elevators.  Sometimes we may grab a drink or a snack.  The Grand Floridian has some really great views from the windows or balconies off the main lobby there.  Go ahead, explore and dream of a romantic getaway here!  You can take some great pictures here too.

We usually call it a night after this excursion.  It may not seem like a lot, but walking around those resorts and experiencing the Monorail is one of our highlights!  You can choose to do other things too!  Hope off this track at the TTC and head over to the Epcot track, you can either do this to visit Epcot or just ride it there and back.  It’s a calming ride, there isn’t too much to see until you pull in to Epcot.  The view is great though, it is awesome taking that turn around Spaceship Earth!  Another variation is to get off to take the ferry back to Magic Kingdom, especially if it is a pleasant day or evening, what a beautiful detour!

Some of the best things in life are free!  This is one of those things for me.  A huge part of going to Walt Disney World is the experience.  Exploring is a wonderful way to experience the resort and the Monorail is such a fun way to explore.  It’s a low key, easy activity to do on your first or last night, or on a “free” night when you do not have much planned.  Arrange your dining around it and make it even more special!  So magical!
