Thrifty Thursday: Free Disney Water

I once inadvertently overheard a conversation between a mother and her young son at Walt Disney World. Her son, who appeared to be about 6 years old, was telling her how thirsty he was and I could see she was carrying a bottle of water. She was telling him how she told him he should have also gotten a bottle of water as she had suggested, but he had insisted on the Mickey Ice Cream. I noticed that her bottle was only about 1/3 full and guessed that she was trying to make it last as long as possible.

As her husband, daughter and son started to walk away, she lagged behind. I approached her and apologized for overhearing her conversation and explained that I was not trying to pry but asked her if she knew that the parks give out free ice water to anyone who asks. She did not have any idea.

So, here’s the great news: All counter service restaurants in the theme parks give out free ice water! The water is normal tap water but is very refreshing and does not taste anything like the water in the drinking fountains, thank goodness. I usually pour the cup of water into the empty bottle I have taken to the park, just for convenience. My husband and son do not like the taste of Florida tap water, so they add a packet of Propel or Crystal Light to theirs. And, if your precious little prince or princess has one of these beauties, they will fill that for free as well.

Just remember the next time your family is thirsty in the park that Walt has already looked out for you! This is just another FREE goodwill gesture provided by Disney.
