Thrifty Thursday: Bringing Water to the Disney Parks

People often ask: “Can I bring a bottle of water to the Disney parks with me?” Happily you can and it’s a great way to save some money and make sure you always have water with you! Here are a few tips to make it easy!.

Regardless of the time of year you visit Walt Disney World you need to stay hydrated. The most logical way is with water, but oh all those bottles of water throughout the day can break the bank. Taking water with you is the most logical thing to do.

Rather than just carrying luke-warm water, which will ultimately get warmer as the day wears on, you can refrigerate or partially freeze your bottles of water overnight so they are ready in the morning when you are. I recently purchased a cross-over bag that has a small clear insulated section just for those water bottles. If you don’t have something like this, wrapping your bottle in a washcloth and then putting into a gallon zip bag will help keep anything else in your bag dry. Just remember, security will want to see what is wrapped in the wash cloth. Since no glass is allowed, they need to be assured the bottle is plastic.

During the day, your water bottle can be refilled at the multiple water fountains in the parks or it is just as easy to ask for a cup of water when you stop for a snack – a little known fact is these cups of water are free!

For those who don’t like “Florida-water”, throw some of the flavor packets in your bag that can mixed as you need during the day. I have heard from others that this disguises the off-flavor of the water and can still keeps you hydrated. I recently saw power drink flavor packets available.

Having water with you also curbs the need for carbonated drinks that really don’t help hydrate you. The Florida sun can be brutal, so better to be safe than sorry. After-all, you wouldn’t want to miss a day feeling under the weather because you didn’t get enough water!
