A favorite attraction for many guests at Walt Disney World is the hilarious Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor comedy show. This attraction opened in late March 2007 in the Tomorrowland area of the Magic Kingdom and is based on the Pixar film Monsters Inc.
First, in the queue, you start off with laughter right from the beginning. The monsters provide a preshow on the monitors. Mike gets you going by telling you a few jokes and then he even asks you to text him your favorite jokes for the possibility of using it in the show!
After everyone enters the “club” and is seated, the show begins. Mike is the “Monster of Ceremonies” and informs the audience that he and his friends are out to make the audience laugh as much as possible. A little strange, coming from a bunch of monsters, don’t ya think? But, hey, this is Disney! Mike then explains that the laughter is needed to power Monstropolis (like at the end of the movie). Without enough laughter, they can’t even open the exit doors for anyone to leave! Mean ol’ Roz, of course informs Mike and his friends that she doesn’t believe they can accomplish the task of filling the canister with enough laughs to keep the town going. She anxiously awaits their downfall.
This show is different than most of the others at Disney, as it uses the audience members to fuel the show. One adult male is chosen to be the brunt of jokes in the show. So guys, watch where you sit! Several other audience members are chosen to participate by answering jokes asked by the comedians. One cute little girl is even chosen to portray Boo. My daughter was one of the audience members chosen to answer, “Why was 6 afraid of 7?” She had no clue, so the monster, laughingly replied, ” Because 7 ate (8) 9!!! She loved it!
As each monster comedian finishes up his/her segment, the canister of power gets a little fuller. By the end of the show, hopefully the canister is full and we can leave…….?
The venue houses approximately 450 seats and: while the show is about 15 minutes long, we have never had to wait longer than one showing. The pre-show helps that time seem to go even faster. It is also an indoor attraction that can be an escape from the extreme temperatures, be it hot or cold and the crazy Florida pop up showers.
Our whole family, ages 8-65, loves this show. We usually visit at least twice during our trip. Each time the show is a little different and we continue to laugh hysterically at the unsuspecting “audience cast”.
No, this is not a major Disney attraction or a spectacular thrill ride, but it is a cute show. Be sure to give it a try on your next magical vacation.
Shannan is a mom that was born and raised in rural Tennessee. She tells us: “I live with my husband and 3 of our 5 children. Travis is 24 and is father to my grandbabies, Emma and baby Judson. I can’t wait to start sharing Disney with them. Dusty is 22, Clay 12, Zachary 10 and Erin is 8. I clean houses to make money to fund my magical trips. I went to Disney the first time as a teen and couldn’t wait to start introducing my own children to the magic. We took our 3 youngest in 2004 and that started it all. We have been 3 times since then and have our first Christmas trip planned for this December. Usually my parents accompany us on the trip and I have to research and plan for things that will suit various ages in our party of 7. Each time I go, I try new experiences in lodging and dining so I can share it with friends and family that seek my advice on trip planning! Disney is definitely my first choice in vacation destinations. Hopefully there is a Disney surf and turf vacation in our future!“
