Terrific Tuesdays: Mickey’s PhilharMagic

For those days when you have had enough walking around Magic Kingdom and need a “sit-down” thing to do, check out Mickey’s PhilharMagic. On a recent trip I tried to convince my husband to go see this show. All I heard was, “I’m not much of a show person”! HA – that wasn’t going to deter me……….so on our last day, I had him convinced.

Entering thru the lobby, you pass along a variety of marquees, one of which was Donald. Oh yea, I had his interest! He is a huge Donald fan. Still he felt the show was all about Mickey and even though he likes Mickey, Donald is his hero.

Entering into the theater, you have a sense of intimacy – the room is darker, the seats more comfortable and the curtains give you a glimpse into what is coming. This show is a 3-D show, but I look at it as 4-D, as I’ll explain in a minute. Be prepared to wear your opera glasses. Smaller kids may find this show a little loud and there is a surprise as Donald is shot into the back wall that can upset the smaller ones. Keep them looking forward and don’t worry about the opera glasses and they might do a little better. You’ll be instructed when to put your glasses on. Ok, so I don’t wait for instructions, but has long as I am not walking, what’s the harm?

Goofy is heard from behind the curtain telling everyone it is time for the show and “Gawrsh, where is everyone?” When the curtain goes up, the orchestra is missing and Donald is fast asleep!

Mickey enters and tells Donald to get the instruments out, but DON’T touch his Fantasia Sorcerer hat! Being the good little duck that Donald is, what does he do………………..of course, he tries to put it on with no success as Mickey’s hat takes on a life of its own! Then chaos starts and Donald is swept into scenes from classic Disney movies such as Beauty in the Beast, Fantasia, Little Mermaid, Lion King, Peter Pan to name a few all while trying to catch Mickey’s Sorcerer Hat.

The reason I rate this as a 4-D show has to do with the smells that come along with the apple pie, the opening of the champagne bottles and other such surprises. You could also be sprayed with the champagne as it opens and pops!

This show is only 12 minutes long, but you cover so many different scenes, you’ll wonder how they got so much into one show. Hubby even had to admit he loved it as we exited into the themed shop and get picked out several Donald souvenirs.

I highly recommend this show for kids of all ages!
