Terrific Tuesdays: “I’ll Be on my Way” to the UK Pavilion

The UK Pavilion is located between Canada and France in Epcot’s World Showcase. Here you will find the charm of England with gardens, including a hedge maze adorning the restaurants, shops and streets.

The Toy Soldier shop sells lots of British memorabilia including Paddington Bear plush, Beatles items and other toys. The HRC- Historical Research Center, lets you research family name histories and sells coats of arms and shirts. Don’t miss the Tea Caddy for specialty flavored Twinings Teas, teapots, teacups and other yummies. Every man will enjoy browsing through the Sportsman’s Shoppe checking out team items from Manchester United, Liverpool Football Club and the Celtics along with items from Ireland’s Guinness company. There is also a small cart in the pavilion that sells small items like key chains, lanyards, pins and stuffed Mickey’s.

There is quite a bit of live entertainment available in the UK Pavilion. The World Showcase players are a group of Renaissance street performers that offer up entertainment with Elizabethan comedy. Pam Brody and Leon Gregory offer up some piano entertainment inside the Rose and Crown Pub. Sing along to various familiar tunes and pose for photos after the performance. The British Revolution is a 4 piece band that pays tribute to British music groups like the Beatles, the Who, Led Zepplin and the Rolling Stones. Check daily times guides for exact locations and time performances.

Oh, the food! Yorkshire County Fish Shop serves up a British favorite, fish and chips and beer, as well as soft drinks. The Rose and Crown Pub and Dining Room patio offers a great place to catch the nighttime spectacular, Illuminations: Reflections of Earth, while dining on Scotch eggs, cottage pie, or their famous Fish & Chips while washing down with a specialty drink or beer. Desserts here include Mandy’s Mess- a pound cake with berries and Rubena Syrup or Jaffa Tarts- orange cream filled cakes with chocolate ganache, raspberry syrup an fresh oranges, just to name a few.

One of my family’s favorite things to do is visit the phone booths in the UK. You never know when one of the phones will ring and who may be on the other end! Want to give someone in the park a magical day? The numbers for the phone booths are:

  • Right Booth: 407 827-9861
  • Left Booth: 407 827-9862
  • Center Booth: 407 827-9863

Take a hop over the pond and enjoy the shops, food, music and beauty that the UK Pavilion has to offer.

Shannan is a mom that was born and raised in rural Tennessee. She tells us: “I live with my husband and 3 of our 5 children. Travis is 24 and is father to my grandbabies, Emma and baby Judson. I can’t wait to start sharing Disney with them. Dusty is 22, Clay 12, Zachary 10 and Erin is 8. I clean houses to make money to fund my magical trips. I went to Disney the first time as a teen and couldn’t wait to start introducing my own children to the magic. We took our 3 youngest in 2004 and that started it all. We have been 3 times since then and have our first Christmas trip planned for this December. Usually my parents accompany us on the trip and I have to research and plan for things that will suit various ages in our party of 7. Each time I go, I try new experiences in lodging and dining so I can share it with friends and family that seek my advice on trip planning! Disney is definitely my first choice in vacation destinations. Hopefully there is a Disney surf and turf vacation in our future!“

Some characters appear in the UK pavilion: Mary Poppins and Alice in Wonderland, but I’ve yet to see them or Pollyanna (portrayed in the movie by Hayley Mills) or Angela Lansbury’s character from “Bedknobs and Broomsticks”. I like the Rose and Crown pub (one of my first dinners in Epcot happened there in the early 90s). I like some of the shops, especially the ones that have offerings that show the Scottish clans and their tartans, swords and other sharp pointed objects (try getting those on the plane!), and of course, lapel pins. I still have the coffee mug featuring Welsh words on it.
