Terrific Tuesdays: Disney’s Kilimanjaro Safari

At Disney’s Animal Kingdom is an exciting tour into the lush Africa Savannah. Open-air tour vehicles take you on a “2-week” safari that transport you to a front row look at animals of the wild. This ride is bumpy along the way, so hold on as you enter into the plains, shady forest landscapes and into rocky wetlands. You will find yourself so absorbed into seeing wild animals in their own environment that when you do finally make it back to home camp it has actually has only been 18 minutes.

No two tours are the same since the animals roam freely behind “hidden” barriers. Kilimanjaro is a 110 acre Harambe Reserve which is dedicated to the protection of African animals. On a recent trip my son commented he saw more animals than on any other trip. Your chances of seeing more animals will depend on the time of day and also the time of year. First thing in the morning is best. Sean and Stephanie were there this last week and with a slightly overcast day and cooler temperatures, even the lions were easier to find.

While on your tour, there is a chart on the back of each seat in front of you with all the animals you may see. There are antelope, black and white rhino, cheetah, crocodile, elephants, flamingo, gazelle, zebra, lions, giraffe, hippos just to name a few. How many can you count?

This ride tends to be quite bumpy since the tour guide actually drives your vehicle through rough terrain and across streams. If you have small ones with you, I suggest putting them to the inside – they will be able hang on to the rail in front of them and sit toward the front of the seat to see all the animals.

This week’s pictures were made possible by my son’s friend, Stephanie – Enjoy!
