Christmas is a very special time at Walt Disney World. All four parks, Downtown Disney, and as we discussed last week, even the resorts are decked out with wreaths, ribbon, lights, Christmas trees, gingerbread men and every imaginable decoration, transforming Walt Disney World into a magical holiday wonderland.

Walt Disney World’s specialty is keeping all the decorations themed to each area. French Quarter is decorated in purples and gold, keeping with the Mardi Gras theme, but incorporating a very festive holiday feeling. Fort Wilderness Lodge is adorned with larger than life Christmas tree in the lobby – extending up several floors. The tree is decorated in north western style ornaments and trim. The last time I was there during the Holiday season, they even used rustic quilts folded into decorations and placed along with the other decoration in the huge lobby tree. Does that give you an idea of how large this tree is?!

Another favorite is Grand Floridian with their playhouse size Gingerbread house all decorated up with sugar canes, candy gum drops, and icing dripping off the roof like icicles in the winter. The gingerbread house takes months of preparation and army of pastry chefs.

Disney Boardwalk is adorned with a real life size fireplace scene with cake “presents”, Mickey shingles and “Santa” hanging in the chimney. Also in the lobby is a gingerbread house with snowmen, cookie garland and even Stitch tangled in lights sitting on top the roof.

Garland is everywhere – down stair handrails – across Main Street – around light posts. Wreaths hang from doors and light post. I only wish I could find the substantial garland uses everywhere, but then I don’t have a large enough handrail to even hold it. Each garland has ornaments of all colors, ribbons tied in the prettiest bows imaginable.

The decorations in Animal Kingdom keep with the ambiance of Asia, Africa and the animal world. The trees are decorated with animal shaped ornaments, natural style garland and African mask in addition to characters found throughout Animal Kingdom.
