Disney with Little Ones: Considering Port Orleans Riverside

If you’ve been following along, you know that I’ve been researching moderate Walt Disney World Resorts. Last time, I took a closer look at Caribbean Beach Resort. This week my research takes me to Port Orleans Riverside. Port Orleans Riverside is adjacent to its sister resort, Port Orleans French Quarter, and is considered a Disney Springs area resort. Riverside is separated into 2 distinct sections – Alligator Bayou and Magnolia Bend – and you’re probably getting some imagery from these names already. The resort is themed after a marshy southern Louisiana town with crepe myrtles, azaleas, the Sassagoula River winding through the property, a history of alligator sightings, and plantation style architecture, just to name a few.

Being a budget-conscious young family, we’ve only ever considered staying in value resorts while visiting Walt Disney World. This time, I’m doing my research and planning to splurge on a moderate or deluxe resort during an off-season time, when (historically speaking) crowds are down and savings are at their peak. For our trip next September, it’s going to be H-O-T so I’m planning on fewer theme park days and more water park and resort pool days. The pools and water slides, transportation options, and the grounds/rooms themselves are all important factors in my choice. I’ve been digging into which moderate resort would suit us best – an active family of four with two little boys, ages 5 and 6. Today I’m looking closely at Caribbean Beach Resort. Read more

Disney with Little Ones: Breakfast at 1900 Park Fare

14856046_10102415267077484_8254885472108085361_oThanks to Hurricane Matthew, our Fall break plans changed at the last minute. Instead of staying on the space coast the night before heading out of Port Canaveral on our cruise vacation, we ended up staying one night in Ocala. Our cruise ship’s Sunday afternoon departure was delayed a couple of hours to allow people a little extra travel time. Walt Disney World is about halfway between Ocala and Cape Canaveral and when we put 2 and 2 together, my husband and I realized that we were suddenly presented with the opportunity to give our little boys a special Sunday morning Disney surprise.  Read more

Disney with Little Ones: EPCOT or Not?

14559942_10102369409706024_6358262247775587500_oA trip to Disney World would not be complete for our family without visiting each of the 4 theme parks. However, time is a luxury and sometimes we may have to make a decision about which park to skip. I often hear that EPCOT is for adults, that kids are bored there, or that there’s nothing for families with young children to do. This just isn’t true – while we don’t typically spend more than one day there, we do enjoy a full day of activities and entertainment.  Read more

Disney with Little Ones: Water Park Fun… and More!

Photo via https://flic.kr/p/mpeKeA

I haven’t quite booked our next Walt Disney World vacation yet, but I’m getting close and I am deep in the process of figuring out those big details…dates, resort, and ticket type. Since we are thinking about going in September next year, I’ve been thinking about the Water Park Fun & More option. The weather will still be blazing hot and it might be nice to spend more time in the water and off of the pavement. This Water Park Fun & More option has always been a little mysterious to me. It must be that vague “& More” add-on that throws me for a loop. What all is included in “More”?
