Running With Disney: We Have a Plan! Sort of….

I haven’t talked much about our family’s next Disney World trip much…in fact, I haven’t actually talked about it at all. Why? Because until just a few weeks ago, we didn’t actually have our next Disney World trip booked!

I know, shocking, right?

(I’m amazed I don’t need some kind of therapy as a result of not having a Disney trip to plan for over 6 months……)

In any event, we have one planned now. And I need your help with it. 🙂

First the details:

Our next Disney trip will be in early January, 2012 for Disney Marathon Weekend. The reason we chose this particular weekend was for a few reasons:

  1. It was the first time that all 3 of us could actually go, other than over the Christmas holidays again….and while I do enjoy that time of year at Disney World….I need a couple years before I’m ready to go that week again. 🙂
  2. DD is running in her first half-marathon in October (the reason we aren’t going to Food and Wine Festival again this year), and she wants to run either the Disney Half-Marathon or the 5K.
  3. January is my birthday. 🙂
  4. By the time January 2012 comes, it will be a year since our last visit….and I can’t wait any longer. (See my comment above about needing therapy….)

So, Walt Disney World Marathon weekend, here we come!

We have a DVC studio booked for Kidani Village and are narrowing down on our ADRs for our trip (I know, I know, the 180 days to book for our dates was several weeks ago…..please don’t turn me into the Disney vacation planning police, OK? I am traumatized enough by having to wait so long between trips!)

Beyond that, nada. DD hasn’t registered yet as she is still trying to decide whether she wants to do the half marathon or the 5K, and is trying to convince DH to do the 5K with her. And I really need to start figuring out what we need to know and expect for this weekend.

And this, my dear Disney friends, is where you come in. 🙂 Those of you who have run in any of the Disney running events could be a huge help to me right now, as this is TOTALLY uncharted territory for us:

What do we need to know?

What should we expect?

What should we plan for?

What tips would you offer?

Anything and everything that you can share about running in a Disney event will be greatly appreciated! 🙂

I’ll be sure to keep you all updated as we get further along with our plans and will definitely let you know which race she decides to do, and whether DH gets talked into doing it with her.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention one teeny, tiny additional detail:

They want ME to do a race with them too!!!!!!

(Now THAT’S a story for another blog article!! 🙂 )

DD should do the 5k with you and your DH and she should do the 1/2 for herself. It’s the BEST race – so much fun! The 5k is around EPCOT (I think?) and doesn’t have to be done for speed. A 16 minute pace (4.0 mph on treadmill) is all you need, so you can either jog comfortable or even walk if you need to.

It’s an AMAZING time of year at the parks – no worries about those ADRs. We walked into Le Cellier last year.. and everything else. all of our ADRs fell through, and we still ate where we wanted.

    Convinced?
