Planning Your Disney Itinerary: Adults-Only Planning

Walt Disney World is not just for kids – adults can absolutely have a fantastic time at the most magical place on Earth (I know from experience) without visiting with kids. If you’re taking an adults-only trip, here are some tips for planning your days at Walt Disney World.

Be sure to take advantage of all the dining opportunities at Disney’s parks and resorts. Walt Disney World has some amazing restaurants on property, and it definitely goes above and beyond what we might normally consider “theme park food.” Sit next to a giant aquarium while at Coral Reef Restaurant, try classic French dishes at Les Chefs de France, or watch the fireworks over the Magic Kingdom while sampling the sushi at California Grill.

While my family loves to visit the parks for all the well-known rides, there are many other things to do at Walt Disney World that are a little more outside the box. There are a variety of behind-the-scenes tours, from all-day, multi-park tours to the short and affordable Behind the Seeds tour at Epcot’s Land Pavilion. Many of these tours are geared towards adults. Want to enjoy Florida’s outdoors a little? Try horseback riding at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, rent a watercraft, or even go on a fishing excursion.

Grown-ups will also enjoy indulging in special events. Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival features drinks and dishes from around the world, and Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival displays fun Disney topiaries and gorgeous garden displays. For Star Wars fans, check out Star Wars Weekends at Hollywood Studios for special character meets and celebrity appearances.

Depending on what time of year you’re visiting, certain parks could be open until midnight or later. Take advantage of long park hours when you can – most families with kids won’t be staying up that late, so those that can stay well after dark will usually see shorter lines and fewer crowds.

Lastly, remember that naps aren’t just for kids. We often took the afternoons off on our trips, especially when we were arriving at the parks early and staying late into the night. Walt Disney World is huge and touring the parks involves a lot of walking, so don’t be afraid to retreat back to the resort for some rest time.
