My Favorite Disney Memory by Debbie

Welcome to our special Disney Memories Week and Giveaway”! This week, while I’m on vacation, we are celebrating Disney’s year long “Let the Memories Begin” theme: each day, one of our great writers will share a favorite Disney memory….and will provide you with a chance to win a $50 Disney gift card. From now until Sunday July 10, you will have up to 2 chances to enter each day by commenting on the blog post and/or our Facebook page.  The more days/times you comment, the more chances you have to win. (But please, to be fair to everyone: only ONE blog entry and ONE Facebook entry per person per day…)

Please note: ONE winner will be selected from all who enter by midnight ET, on Sunday, July 10. Good luck….and Let the Memories Begin!

When thinking about Walt Disney World and the one favorite memory of mine, my mind just keeps running through the many trips I have taken.  WDW is my favorite memory!  But if I must narrow it down to just one special memory that sticks out in my mind, I would have to say it’s the trip hubby and I made to the Food & Wine Festival in 2008.  It was my new husband’s first trip around the World. He was trying food and wine that he’d never consider tasting before this trip. You see, my dear husband is not an adventurous eater. He has broadened his horizons since I’ve been around, but meat and potatoes had been his main diet.He knew how much I love the Food and Wine Festival so he was willing to give it a try.   He was such a sport, trying things like Seared Tuna Loin with Spicy Red Pepper Coulis, Grilled Beef and Hummus in Pita Pocket and Shrimp with Cilantro Salsa.  There was plenty for a picky eater. We found splitting each sample worked best for us.  That gave us both a taste and saved some money along the way.

After several hours of wandering around and trying quite a few things, he finally agreed to try one of my Escargot Persillade in Brioche. Imagine the shock on my face at this!  Escargot is not for the faint of heart! I carefully picked one of the smallest ones and handed it to him.  I was in such shock I missed getting his picture with the escargot in one hand and a Sam Adams beer in the other.  The look of pure fear on his face was priceless!  He quickly popped the bread in his mouth, ate it and after trying not to gag – downed that Sam Adams!  Yah!  He did it!  But as I have been reminded many times since – he did it and now he doesn’t have to do it again!

Question 1 (answer below in the comment section): What is the most adventurous food you have tried while at Walt Disney World?  Would you try it again?

Question 2 (answer on our Facebook page): What is the most surprising thing you have been able to eat or drink while visiting the WDW parks?  Was it surprising because you didn’t expect it to be available or surprising because you didn’t think you’d ever try it?

The most adventurous thing I have eaten was the red bean ice cream and the caramel ginger ice cream at 9 Dragons in Epcot. I am too picky!

We have only been two times to Disney, so I haven’t had a chance to try anything adventurous yet. I would really like to eat at Boma or Jiko though and try those foods since I have not eaten anything like them before!

Leek Salad on my Honeymoon! I didn’t like it, but my husband and I ate the whole salad. Wouldn’t try it again.

I first tried calamari at the Italian restaurant a few years back. Never thought I would like it but I LOVE it now.

The most adventurous thing I’ve eaten was some spicy scallops sushi at California Grill. It was outstanding (as was the entire meal there).

The most adventurous food I have tried at WDW is Ratatoulli. My kids were trying it because they love the movie…I had too. Nope, sure wouldn’t try it again, I am not keen on veggies!

The most adventurous thing I have ever eaten………I haven’t been to Disney World in over 10 years, but will be there in a few weeks, and I am super excited to try some of the exotic food I have been reading about on all the blogs. I think we are going to try Boma.
