March 2015 Disney World Special Events: Flowers, Artists and Cupcakes!

Howdy, Folks!  Greetings from closer to Disney than we have ever lived.  Yes, I’m still excited about our move to our little mini-farm… not so much about unpacking an infinite number of boxes… Do two people really need this much stuff?  ‘Nuff about my personal news… Let’s see what’s hopping through March 2015 at Walt Disney World!

First a bit of bad news.  March is typically the month of the infamous week of spring break so after this first week of March, watch out on crowds!  It’s time to utilize the Fast Pass + (FP+) options and get your FP+ online and loaded onto your new magic bands!

On to the good stuff… special events at Walt Disney World (WDW)!

Cinderella, Disney’s live-action version of an old favorite, is set to be released in theaters March 13!  Contemporary Resort pastry team has created a special dessert to celebrate!  This vanilla cupcake has been magically filled with vanilla and buttercream icing, topped with a white chocolate glass slipper, a pumpkin and a pinch of fairy dust!

Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the ABC Sound Studio will be showing a Preview of Cinderella until March 21, 2015!  Take your camera so you can get your own image of the beautiful golden coach from the movie displayed just outside the theater!

March is coming in like a lion at Downtown Disney!  A number of new book releases and signings, spring art collections and even a new Gallery will be happening at Downtown Disney during March, including, Ridley Pearson’s two new books, Lee Cockerell’s new book, Time Management Magic, Larry Dotson signing his special artwork, plus so many more!  Disney is not just for kids anymore!  Adults, especially baby boomers are Disney Mouseketeers!

While we are talking about Downtown Disney, another not to be missed event is the Mighty Festival during St. Patrick’s week (March 13 -17, 2015)!  Live music, classic Irish food and drinks, face painting and lots of souvenirs!  Special performances by Scythian, $3 Band, Reel O Grande, just to mention a few musical talents, while the Raglan Road Dancers jig the night away!  There is a cover charge for guests 18 and over on March 17th only.

The most beautiful season of the year began on March 4 at WDW with The Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival!  The Festival continues to bloom with magical floral color until May 17, 2015.  Each year, the floral landscaping artists at WDW top the previous year’s colorful show with fresh new topiaries of our favorite Disney characters, the butterfly house, and especially themed gardens throughout Epcot.  In 2013, Disney began tempting more than our visual sense with the Flower and Garden Festival.  Now you can get eye candy with all the floral color, while you follow your nose from vendor to vendor at the Outdoor Kitchens.  Seasonal dishes and beverages will give you an extra bite of the taste of spring as you go through Epcot from the front gate all around the World Showcase.

Along with the great smells and tastes of spring, come auditory treats with the Garden Rocks Concert Series with a different sound from different artists each week from March 6 – May 17, 2015.   The concerts are at the America Gardens Theatre at 5:30 pm, 6:45 pm and 8:00 pm Friday, Saturday, and Sundays.  The artists featured during the month of March are:

  • Weekend 1:  March 6-8, 2015 features the Musical Act Gin Blossoms –     First timers at The Flower and Garden Festival!

  • Weekend 2:  March 13 – 15, 2015 has Mouseketeers springing to their feet with Pablo Cruise – another newbie at The Flower and Garden Festival!

  • Weekend 3:  March 20- 22, 2015 All fashion conscious music lovers will know they have freed their minds when En Vogue hits the stage!

  • Weekend 4: March 27 – 29, 2015 has a returning favorite at the Flower and Garden Festival ~ Starship.  (Mickey Thomas shares his home state with us ~ Georgia!)

Now, if getting the dirt under your fingernails is more appealing than rocking the night away, never fear!  Disney has complimentary gardening and horticulture experts for your pleasure!  Grab a Garden Passport at the Festival Welcome Center to get stamped throughout your stops (Outdoor kitchens and most merchandise locations have special stamps for your Garden Passport too!).  Most hands-on presentations are at the Festival Center on the Greenhouse Stage at 11 am and 2 pm Friday, Saturday and Sundays.  Demonstrations are on the Fresh Epcot Stage Friday through Sundays, 12 pm and 3 pm.  Whenever we trek down for the Flower and Garden Festival, hands-on presentations and demonstrations are a must for me, as a gardener!

Don’t miss all the special gardens and exhibits during the months of the Flower and Garden Festival, Illuminated Gardens, Hummingbirds at Home, Shakespeare Garden, Prehistoric Plants and more!

We won’t be seeing the Flower and Garden Festival or attending the St. Paddy’s Day celebrations this year… I’ll planting my own flower and veggie gardens down on the farm in west-central Georgia!  Wave at me as you go down I-75 through Georgia towards Orlando!  Till next time!
