Disney with Little Ones: Saving Money on Photos

There are so many great ideas floating around and this website is jam-packed with them. Today I am going to share one of my favorite money-saving tips with you.

Disney offers a photo service called Memory Maker. For just $169 (if paid in advance and $199 for immediate use), Memory Maker allows you to have photos taken at countless fantastic locations throughout Disney property and then digitally download all of your favorite magical moments. You don’t have to lug your DSLR around or worry about your phone battery dying before you snap that perfect shot. Official Disney photographers are available at dining locations, attractions, character meet and greets, park landmarks, and so many other spots. Keep in mind though, that this does not include actual prints of your photos.

If the price tag for Memory Maker is too steep for you, there’s a wonderful alternative. Did you know that the official Disney photographers will use your DSLR, point and shoot camera, Polaroid, iPhone, or any other device you hand them to capture your memories – for FREE? That’s right, all you have to do is ask. And often times, they will offer. When I was a cast member (many years ago), we learned in training to keep an eye out for guests who were taking pictures of other people in their party and offer to take a group photo for them (as long as it didn’t get in the way of our job duties at that time). Guests are so grateful for this and there’s no reason for anyone to be left out. Not only official photographers but also cast members are more than happy to help you capture your precious memories. With selfie sticks now banned in the parks, it can be difficult to get those group shots yourself. Simply reach out and ask for a photographer or cast member (just be considerate of their ability to do so) to snap a photo for you.

I used to be embarrassed to do this but hey – you will probably never see them again and you’ll never regret the result …lasting memories! They do a wonderful job and you will have just as many pictures to choose from when you get home and decide to order prints as you would if you had opted for Memory Maker.

Candice was raised in east Tennessee. While in college, her best friend dragged her to a Walt Disney World College Program recruiting session at the University of Tennessee and the rest is Disney history. In the Fall of 1999, Candice became a quick service food hostess for Sunset Ranch Market and Fantasmic at Disney-MGM Studios – or what is now known as Disney’s Hollywood Studios. While soaking up her time as a cast member, she met Ryan, a neighbor and a fellow college programmer who worked as a custodial host at Epcot. Four years later, Candice moved to the Midwest and married that boy from across the hall. They now live in Greenwood, Indiana with their two little boys. The Disney-loving foursome took their first family trip to The Happiest Place on Earth in 2013 and Candice is eagerly planning their return. Candice also works full-time at a community mental health center and enjoys taking photographs and blogging at Mommy in the Midwest.
