Disney Vacation Planning: Should we go at Christmas Time?

The holidays have always had a special place in my heart. Not only the Reason for the Season, but I melt when it comes to decorations and lights. And where better to see decorations and lights then the most Magical Place on earth Walt Disney World! Here’s what you should think about if you are planning a visit during this time of year.

I have been several times for a long weekend the 1st of December and have found this to be a perfect time to enjoy all the decorations and lights Disney has to offer. Not only are the crowds down at this time of year, since school is still in session, but the weather is generally mild. The one downfall of going this time of year is some of the special effects are not in full swing yet either.

I have a girlfriend of mine that loves taking her family the week before Christmas and then returns home on Christmas Eve. They absolutely love it that time of year. Everything is lit up and decorated and the parades have all been transitioned over to the Holiday mode. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is not as crowded, since most kids are not quite out of school. Once they return on Christmas Eve, they can chill out with a quiet holiday reminiscing about the trip.

The week between Christmas and New Years can work if you don’t mind crowds, can go-with-the-flow instead of being on a schedule and there are fewer people in your group. This is a great time to spend more time going from hotel to hotel seeing the different themed decorations and not spending quite as much time in the parks. Crowds are definitely up this week and I have heard about the parks closing temporarily because of being at capacity during this week.

Whichever time period you choose be sure and spend it taking in the lights, decorations, Holidays Around the World , the Candlelight Processional, the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights and Mickey’s Jingle Jungle Parade at Animal Kingdom. Don’t forget to bring plenty of decorations for your hotel room – it is so much fun walking around the hotel seeing how people have brought their little part of the holiday to their home away from home.

Wishing everyone a Very Magical Holiday Season!!!!
