Disney Vacation Planning: An ALL Adult Trip

You’ve just made decision to make an all adult trip to the most Magical place in the World: Walt Disney World! Your friends can’t believe it and your children and/or grandchildren think you have totally lost it – after all – Walt Disney World is for kids – right?! Yes and NO! The magic of Disney is that there is something to do for kids of all ages, from 3 to 93! How do you plan for such an occasion?

When: Going during off season times while the kids are in school is perfect – after all, this trip is to join other adults in finding the magic of Disney! Since you don’t have to worry as much with schedules, this seems like the perfect time. For example, right now the Food & Wine Festival is in full swing – perfect! No need for children’s menus – you can try things that will would normal bring an “EW” from the little ones.

How long: For me, a long weekend is perfect. Without tired little feet (just big ones) – you can go without as many breaks, or you can relax and smell the roses. 3-4 days will still allow plenty of time, if it is only adults. This is also a good excuse: “Sorry, this is a quick trip – we’ll plan a longer trip with the little ones”.

Where to stay: Take this trip to stay someplace new, maybe even a moderate or deluxe hotel where you can enjoy the amenities, such as the quiet pools, hot tub, spas, and finer restaurants. Maybe even plan on an evening at the hotel to refresh and re-energize!

How to get there: With 1 or 2 adults – you might consider flying. This could be better in utilizing your time at Walt Disney World. Flying in late one evening and the out late the last night gives you full days to enjoy what the World has to offer.

What to do while in the World: PLENTY! How about seeing some of the shows the kids usually don’t want to take the time to sit still for. Or maybe visit some of those stores where “glass” things are abundant. Personally, I enjoy being the older kid laughing and throwing my hands up in the air while riding Dumbo or It’s a Small World, or seeing Nemo and Friends thru the eyes of a grown up kid. There are also several places around the World where adult beverages are available. Try a Grey Goose Slushie or a Kir Royale or a specialty beer from different countries. Most of all – have fun – chill out – and enjoy being in the Most Magical Place on Earth!

What NOT to do: Don’t be embarrassed about wearing those Mickey ears or tearing up at the sight of Illuminations. Don’t worry if you get so absorbed in Fantasmic that you forget the kids are not sitting next to you. Don’t worry if you seem to wear the Turkey leg you just had to have. And most of all don’t feel guilty if you think afterward – this was a great trip and Walt Disney World IS for adults! This can be our little secret!
