Dining at Walt Disney World: Biergarten

I just love the Germany pavilion and the Biergarten buffet in Epcot. This buffet is not for the faint of heart so be prepared to spend some time to fully enjoy it. You WILL waddle out of there!

Instead of individual tables, you are seated at cafeteria style long tables in an evening setting in the center of a small German village. You could find yourself sitting with several other families. You may not know them when you get there, but you’ll fast become best buddies, after enjoying a family style buffet that promotes easy conversation.

After being seated, your costumed waitresses will take your drink order and give you a rundown of what to expect on the buffet. We chose a liter of beer – it seemed appropriate being in Germany. Word of warning though – a liter is a lot of BEER! I personally prefer my beer ice cold and by the time I drank slightly over half of it – the remainder was warm. I think my dad had to finish it. (Oh, the shame!)

They do offer white and red wines and beer flights. Looking back the beer flight would have been a better option – this is 5 oz pours of 4 different German beers. Also available is a wine flight; 3 – 2 oz pours of German wines. Of course non-alcoholic drinks are included in the buffet prices. And for the adventurous – shots of schnapps and Jagermeister.

They have three buffets that start with cold items that include several different German salads and dressings, a Wurst Plate with bologna and sausages. Also available were soups, which change with the seasons. The hot buffet had many selections of chicken, pork, bratwurst, sausages and Frikadellen (meat patties in red wine sauce). The hot buffet also has roasted potatoes, braised red cabbage, carrots and macaroni and cheese. There are several items you can add for a charge. I found with all the choices on the buffets, I really didn’t need anything else.

As if the hot and cold buffets weren’t enough, they also have a dessert buffet – YUM! This included cookies, black forest cake, cheese cake, fruit salad, pudding and apply strudel.

Brightly costumed musicians provide traditional Oktoberfest entertainment, encouraging diners to dance and be part of the festivities. This was so much fun and it gave us a well needed rest between trips to the buffet.

We spent about 2 hours enjoying the food, drink and entertainment. It was well worth it!
