Cruising With Disney: Service With a Smile

Service is abundant on a Disney Cruise ship! As you step into the cruise port, you are greeted by Disney Cast Members who are excited for you to be sailing on their ship.  Heading up to the registration area, you anxiously await your turn to check-in, receive your documents, your daily navigator and your boarding pass.  Once you enter the lobby of the ship, you’re welcomed aboard by many of the ships greeters, your family name is announced and your picture taken.  And that’s just the beginning!

Your room steward – can you take him/her home?!  How wonderful would that be?  This person is magical!  They manage to get in your room when you’re not there, make the beds, change the towels, leave you a towel animal, pick up any miscellaneous items and neatly place them out of the way; return while you’re at dinner and turn down your bed, leave a chocolate on your pillow and again, refresh the bathrooms.  They work from morning until night.  They’re always there…they’re your Fairy Godmother!

Disney Cruise Line wait staff never ceases to amaze me. From the time you sit down until the time you finish your meal, they make you feel as though you are the only table they have to serve.  The first time you meet them is your sail away dinner and they follow you through each dining room until your last meal on the ship.  Each little detail is remembered; from the beverage you drink to the way you like your meat cooked.  Your servers are genuinely happy to see you and have interest in what you do each day.  Oh, and if you miss a meal, they miss you!

Throughout the ship you’ll find crew members, who are always happy to see you, point you in the right direction and help with anything that you need.  The staff at the front desk will answer your questions, make change, replace room keys (if needed) and so much more.  Then there’s the excursion desk, it seems no matter what you desire in terms of activities off the ship, they have something for you.  Multiple questions are asked and answered again and again.

So when the time comes to recognize this wonderful group of people, remember how thoughtful, caring and kind they were to you for your length of stay.  Remember that smile they always had on their face, remember how hard they worked to make your cruise the best one you’ve ever sailed on.  Reward them for their generous effort and never ending service.

Sheila tells us: I live in Massachusetts with my husband and 2 daughters and was first introduced to Disney over 35 years ago. Having visited many times since, we always found ourselves eager to return because Disney always provided us so many options on things to do. One hot, humid, August day back in 1998, while visiting Animal Kingdom, a gentleman asked if we would like a ride in an air conditioned van along with an ice cold lemonade in exchange for an hour of his time. We took him up on his offer and when that hour was up we wanted to hear more…more about the Disney Vacation Club (DVC). We became DVC members that day and have never regretted our decision – we enjoy amazing vacations.
