Disney Magic: It’s what sets Walt Disney World apart from other theme parks. It’s the little things that make up the Disney Magic – a special greeting of “Welcome Home” when you arrive at your resort, when a cast member singles out your child to say “Hello Princess”, or when you run into your favorite character unexpectedly.
My daughter, Maggie, and niece, Natalie, experienced a bit of this magic this summer when they were in search of a cold drink. It was a blazing hot August day when my husband and the girls stopped into Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe in the Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland to cool off between riding Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Splash Mountain. A cast member from Pecos Bills approached them and asked if the girls wanted to be Deputies of the Day. The girls excitedly replied “Sure!”
The cast member led them to the front porch of Pecos Bills to receive their Deputy badges and cowgirl hats. Next they met The Notorious Banjo Brothers and Bob, who greeted each of them over a microphone with “What’s your name cowgirl princess?”
Maggie and Natalie stood on Pecos Bill’s porch next to the musicians and with several restaurant cast members behind them. As a small crowd gathered to watch the impromptu show, The Notorious Banjo Brothers and Bob led everyone in songs. Maggie and Natalie were thrilled to clap along with the music and lead the onlookers with “Yee Ha!” cheers throughout the song.
At end of their performance – just a few minutes after they said their names out loud – a cast member arrived with official certificates for each of them. Pecos Bill himself had proclaimed Natalie and Maggie Deputies of the Day! Just like magic.
The girls were on cloud nine for the rest of the day, and returned home with their Deputy souvenirs and a very special Disney memory.
