Affordable Disney: Fun Ways to Get Around at Walt Disney World

Once you arrive at your resort hotel at Walt Disney World, you can park your car and forget it! There are so many ways to get around, that I have found it hard to use them all on our trips. Last time we chatted about the Disney buses. Today let’s look at some of the other ways to get around.

One very popular form of transportation is the monorail. This “highway in the sky” runs on a rail above everything which gives you a bird’s eye view along the way. There are 12 different colors running right now. While the monorail body are all white, each will have a different color stripe running the length of the train. These colors are Peach, Teal, Red, Coral, Orange, Gold, Yellow, Lime, Green, Blue, Silver and Black.

There are several monorail loops:from Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) to EPCOT and back; the “resort loop” from Magic Kingdom with stops at the Contemporary, Polynesian and Grand Floridian resorts and back  to Magic Kingdom; and then from Magic Kingdom just to TTC and back, so you can make the transfer to the EPCOT monorail loop. Each car has plenty of space for people and unless it is super crowded, you can just roll your stroller right into the car. Be sure and listen for the special announcement as the doors close!

Another way to get around is on one of the many boats that run from resorts to Disney Springs, from park to park, resorts to parks and even from one section of a park to another section in the same park. There are a number of options for boat transportation so be sure to check with your resort hotel or at the parks to see what kind of boat choices you may have. While I do love to take a leisurely ride on a boat, keep in mind these are a slower mode of transportation. Make sure you adjust your timing accordingly!

One of the newest ways to get around Walt Disney World is on the new Minnie Vans! These bright red with white dots vans are now available at all Walt Disney World Resorts and are available using the Lyft app. Unlike other forms of transportation, these do run $25/trip per vehicle. Payments are made through the Lyft app. Hours of operation are 6:30 am to 12:30 am daily.

And there is actually a new and exciting option in the works, but it is not quite ready yet. When complete, the new Disney Skyliner gondolas will connect Art of Animation, Pop Century and Caribbean Beach Resorts to Hollywood Studios and EPCOT International Gateway. Also included will be the yet-to-be-finished Riviera Resort, which is currently slated to open – as is the Skyliner – in mid 2019.
