A 3-5-7-10 or 14 Day Disney World Vacation…Which One Are You Taking?

First an update on our 14 day Disney trip in September…

Close, yet so far away…..that’s how we feel about the countdown to our Disney World vacation!! It’s all we can do to keep from pulling the suitcases out and start packing!  We HAVE made our “things to pack” list…and have checked it twice…okay…more like 50 times…and we’ve bought a few things here and there for the trip just to make ourselves feel better about the wait!  Just knowing there is a little pile of “trip stuff” in the guest bedroom makes the waiting easier to bear!  We go over our itinerary at LEAST once a week…tweaking it here and there…and sometimes changing it back to the way we originally had it…LOL..but this makes us feel like we are doing SOMETHING Disney related on a regular basis…to help us get by until we head out to our favorite destination…Disney World!!

We also keep an eye on any park refurbishments that might occur while we are there in September…several attractions will be out of commission during that time, so we are working our schedule around them!  We will completely miss the Honey I Shrunk the Kids Playground which will be closed Sept.3–Nov. 19.  The Jungle Cruise will be closed Aug. 19-Sept. 30…this one really saddens us as it is one of our favorites and it will be closed the week our daughter and son-in-law are there for their first trip to Disney World!! We are hoping they finish the repairs early and open it before they have to go home!!  But it WILL be open the second week we are there and our son’s girlfriend, who is also a first timer will get to enjoy it along with us!

Space Mountain will be closed off and on during the month of September, but the week of the 23-26 is the one that will affect us, so we have to make sure we ride it on the 27th or 28th, so the 3 first timers can experience the awesomeness of OUTER SPACE!!  Also Peter Pan will be closed from Sept. 30 – Nov. 13, so we will have to get this one in on those days as well!  And last, but not least, the Walt Disney World Railroad will be closed from Sept. 30 – Oct. 21, so we will be riding it on the 27th or 28th too, so everyone can enjoy the sights along the tracks!!  There ARE other refurbishments at some of the hotels and restaurants that are taking place during this time period as well as others…however; there are several different websites that you can check out to get the latest information on what is going in the parks that might affect YOUR time there.

It was also announced last week that many of the resorts at Disney World will be without “in room” refrigerators in the coming months due a possible defect.  This rang a bell with
us because when we stayed at Port Orleans Riverside on our last trip in 2011, we had to have the refrigerator replaced because it wasn’t cooling properly.  It was taken care of quickly and the new one worked perfectly, but if this has been an ongoing problem, I can see why they need to take care of it now!  Disney has said that if refrigerators are needed for medical reasons or baby formula, they will accommodate those needs for their guests if possible.  Although it will be an inconvenience not to have refrigerators in our rooms, we will be taking ice chests to keep our drinks and snacks cold.  As a matter of fact, we have a small refrigerator in our storage shed that we don’t use, so we may just bring it with us and “Bibbity-Bobbity-Boo” …our problem of no fridge is solved!

We  tend to enjoy the longer Disney World trips…typically 7-14 days…so that we can experience new adventures and return to many of those must do’s that we feel can’t be
missed.  After many years of traveling to Disney World, we’ve spoken with many people who prefer shorter 3-5 day excursions and those who prefer the longer 7-14 day trips.  The planning that goes into a Disney World trip can be extensive with reservations (hotel, airline and dining, i.e.) and can in fact, be the same no matter the length of your stay.

Making dining reservations can be a little stressful, especially if you purchase the Disney
Dining Plan where it is strongly recommended you to make table service reservations for the days you are staying in the park. These aspects of your trip can vary but will generally take up the most time and energy. Once we’ve made our trip arrangements we tend to concentrate on the Dining Reservations so they can coincide with our park visits.

Since we enjoy going to all of the parks multiple times this becomes easier for us with a longer trip.  Add the trips we make to the water parks, my husband’s golf games, Downtown Disney and other assorted Disney locations we feel we must visit on each of our trips, and you can see how a short trip would make us feel unfulfilled.

There are so many things to see and do at Disney World…we try to get in every sight, ride, parade and show that we can…and because we put in so much work ahead of time getting our itinerary just right, we feel cheated if we don’t get to do as much as possible while we are there!

What about you?  Do you prefer the shorter trips or the longer ones?  Of course, ANY time at Disney World is MAGICAL!!

As Julie says: “I am addicted to all things Disney! 🙂 I grew up in Vernon, TX and now reside in Waller, TX (outside of Houston) on a small ranch with my hubby and all of our animals who we affectionately call “The Zoo Crew”! We have been married almost a year now (together for 7) and have 5 children and 9 grandchildren between the 2 of us. We knew we were meant for each other when we discovered we were both Disney fanatics! 🙂 I went to Disneyland for the first time when I was 6 and fell in love with the magic of Disney. Now, my husband and I go to Disney World every 2 years either with friends or with whichever kid and grandkid are available to go at the time. We spend a lot of time planning our trips to ensure that everyone has the most memorable time while there, so that is what I will be writing about and hopefully give you some ideas to try for YOUR next Disney vacation. I am very excited to be a part of The Affordable Mouse team!”

We’re going for six nights, but it still won’t be enough to do everything. Time for us to get strategic and prioritize!
