Cruising with Disney: Sailing on the Disney Dream

Having recently returned from a Disney Cruise, I have to say that the ship, the crew, the activities…they continue to amaze me. This was the first time I sailed on one of Disney’s newer ships, the Disney Dream.  The Dream is larger than the Disney Wonder and Disney Magic, and had both similar yet different amenities.

As you enter the Disney Dream, the lobby is very open and I found it to be more spacious than it’s sister ships mentioned above.  Having the open space is a big improvement in that it handles the flow of guests in a much more comfortable way.  Guest Services, Port Adventures and the Shopping Activities desks are spread throughout different decks of the ship making it less crowded and easy access to each area.

The restaurants on the Disney Dream are similar to the Wonder and Magic yet are unique in their own way.  Palo and Remy, the adult only restaurants, are located on Deck 12 making them private and quiet, giving you the feel of being the only ones on the ship.  The service is more than you could ever imagine.  If you can’t decide what to have, you’ll be served all of it!

When it comes to all dining, you are treated like royalty and it is wonderful.  The restaurants on the dining rotation serve something for everyone; from fish to poultry to meat to vegetarian…as well as a special menu for the kids.  And then of course there’s quick service windows including pizza, paninis, hamburgers, chicken, sushi, and more.  And don’t forget the buffet where you’ll never go hungry!

A big difference that I found with the rooms on the Dream is that the majority of them are connecting rooms.  I have always been one to request a non-connecting room if I do not need an additional stateroom, but with them being few and far between on this ship, it’s difficult to have that request fulfilled.  With that being said, I was a little hesitant knowing I was going to have a connecting room but I have to say that the noise level was minimal.

The activities are numerous: stage shows, comedians, magicians, movies, wine tastings, nightclubs, piano bar, sports deck, gym and more.  Teens can enjoy their own areas of the ship along with activities suited to their age group.  And there’s also the nursery and toddler area for the little ones.

If you’re unsure about taking a cruise because you may have concerns about sea-sickness, or you may be questioning the cost, I suggest you do a 3 or 4 day cruise to get a taste of what it’s all about: chances are you’ll be ready to book a second cruise as soon as, if not before, you arrive home!

Sheila tells us: I live in Massachusetts with my husband and 2 daughters and was first introduced to Disney over 35 years ago. Having visited many times since, we always found ourselves eager to return because Disney always provided us so many options on things to do. One hot, humid, August day back in 1998, while visiting Animal Kingdom, a gentleman asked if we would like a ride in an air conditioned van along with an ice cold lemonade in exchange for an hour of his time. We took him up on his offer and when that hour was up we wanted to hear more…more about the Disney Vacation Club (DVC). We became DVC members that day and have never regretted our decision – we enjoy amazing vacations.
